Frames are a basic piece of equipment that serve primarily to reduce and avoid damage from enemy attacks.
Frames can come with a varying amount of "slots," ranging from zero to four (the chances for which are listed below). Slots allow characters to equip Units, which provide a wide array of bonuses depending on the unit equipped, varying from stat bonuses (such as God/Power) to more complicated effects (such as God/Battle or State/Maintenance).
